Privacy Policy

How Viner collects, uses, and protects information about you.

👋

1. Who we are and what this covers

Viner is a fan-made project that recreates and extends the experience of watching short looping videos from the original Vine archive. The Services are developed and operated by Reeseify (“we”, “us”, “our”).

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use viner.co, beta.viner.co, the Viner Android app, and any other Viner-branded products that link to this policy (collectively, the “Services”).

📊

2. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on which parts of Viner you use and how you use them. In general, we collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information (beta/app): If you create a Viner account, we may collect your username, display name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and optional profile details such as bio or avatar.
  • User content and activity: Videos you upload, captions, comments, likes, and other interactions with content on Viner.
  • Archive metadata: For historical Vine clips, we may store or process IDs, usernames, timestamps, loop counts, and similar metadata.
  • Usage and device data: IP address, general location based on IP (such as country or region), device and browser type, operating system, pages viewed, session times, and basic interaction logs such as which videos were watched.
  • Support and communication: If you contact us by email (for example, at support@viner.co), we may keep a record of your message and the information you provide so that we can respond and follow up.
⚙️

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect for purposes that include:

  • Providing the Services: Operating the archive and beta platform, letting you browse, search, watch, upload, and interact with clips.
  • Maintaining and improving Viner: Diagnosing technical issues, fixing bugs, and understanding how people use different features so we can make decisions about what to improve or remove.
  • Safety and security: Detecting and addressing abuse, spam, suspicious activity, and violations of our Terms or Guidelines.
  • Communication: Sending you important messages about your account or the Services, such as critical updates, security notices, or major changes to policies.

We do not sell your personal information. If this ever changes in a material way, we will update this policy and provide additional information where appropriate.

🍪

4. Cookies and local storage

We may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies for limited purposes, such as:

  • Remembering preferences on your device (for example, if you dismissed a popup or notice).
  • Keeping track of simple session information while you browse.
  • Supporting basic analytics about page views and usage patterns.

At this time, Viner does not aim to run broad cross-site advertising trackers. If we add any third-party tools that use cookies in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this policy with more detail.

⏱️

5. How long we keep information

Historical archive data (such as Vine IDs and associated metadata) is intended to be preserved long-term as part of documenting internet history. For account-based data, we generally keep your information for as long as:

  • Your account is active; and
  • We reasonably need the information to operate and protect the Services.

If you request to close your Viner account or delete certain information, we will review your request. Some information may need to be retained for technical, security, or legal reasons, or kept in backups for a limited period before being overwritten.

🔄

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in limited ways, including:

  • Service providers: With hosting, storage, or analytics providers that help us run Viner. These providers are only allowed to use the information to perform services for us.
  • Legal and safety reasons: If we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or government request; or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Viner, our users, or others.
  • Aggregated or de-identified data: We may share information that has been combined or changed so that it does not identify individual users, such as general usage statistics.
🛡️

7. Protecting your information

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to help protect information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These measures may include encrypted connections (HTTPS) and storing passwords in hashed form.

No online service can guarantee perfect security. You can help by using a strong, unique password for your Viner account and by not sharing your login details with others.

👦

8. Children and younger users

Viner is not designed for children under 13. We do not knowingly ask for or store personal information directly from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Parents or guardians who have questions or concerns about a child’s use of Viner can contact safety@viner.co or support@viner.co.

📝

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights related to your personal information, such as rights to access, correct, or delete certain data.

For Viner beta/app accounts, you can request access to your information or request deletion of your account directly in your account settings, or by visiting:
https://viner.co/my/account/delete

For historical archive data, we may not always be able to remove all references to a clip, but we will review reasonable requests and take what steps we can in light of technical and legal constraints.

ℹ️

10. Changes and contact

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date below. If changes are significant, we may also provide additional notice in the app or on the site.

If you continue to use Viner after an updated version takes effect, that use will be treated as your acceptance of the updated policy.

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, you can email contact@viner.co or support@viner.co.
